Dellin Betances on fast track to the Major Leagues

Dellin Betances on fast track to the Major Leagues « Zell’s Pinstripe Blog

New York Post: BETANCES ON FAST TRACK TO MAJORS

“Don’t be surprised,” he says, “if you see him in September.”

“We’re really close,” Betances says over lunch at El Nuevo Caridad on 191st and St. Nicholas. “They’ve always been there for me to motivate and help me.”

“I wouldn’t be here without Cesar. He’s the best,” Betances says. “You always hear from him and that’s good.”

I have been waiting on this guy for a while now. Not that he wasn’t progressing, but I am glad to see that he is coming off a very good season. I would say that this guy has the highest ceiling of all the Yankees prospects. That doesn’t mean he will live up to it, but he definitely has the potential to be a #1. He has the frame and pitching style of Randy Johnson. He came out of high school weighing 215 and since than he has added a few pounds..now weighing 245LBS. This kid is a star in the making. You better watch out for this guy.

Check out Dellin Betances in action:

- It seems to me that Dellin likes to dance and has a good sense of humor. Funny Clip

- Check out this SI.com article that was written about him a while back. “Baby Unit” Betances draws attention on the mound.

Some things said about Dellin:

“Try to put yourself in the shoes of an average-sized high school player,” Martinez says. “And here’s Dellin, 6-9 with long, lanky arms on a 10-inch mound. We’re talking about the Empire State Building on the mound, and the batter is like a shed.”

“I haven’t seen anything like this in New York City,” says Martinez, who’s in his 11th year as head coach at Grand Street Campus. “We’ve had great hitters like Manny Ramirez, but a pitcher? In this cold weather?”

And when he was selected to the Aflac game, Betances’ favorite team, the Yankees, honored him prior to one of their games. After Betances ran into A-Rod in the clubhouse, Rodriguez told the Daily Newshe was glad he didn’t have to face Grand Street’s ace. “That was a privilege to have A-Rod honor me,” Betances says.

Immediately after he was drafted by the Yanks..I started a baseball card collection of him. You can check it out here if you’d like: My Dellin Betances Collection
