I need some help with Photoshop!

Ok, I got the XP update in my computer, and got the Photoshop CS trial version downloaded and everything. But, wow! this is confusing! I was trying to make a banner, just of my dog. And I am soo confused right now. Like my dog is the background now and I cant really do anything. Does anyone have some tips? Do I need to use ImageReady and/or Bridge? Thanks soooo much!

you don't have to use imageready. for a banner i would say make a new one 400x100 (in pixels)

fill in the sig w/ a color using the paint bucket

go to layer>new layer and then add the picture of your dog. you'll have to cut out the background or something if you dont' want it.

hope this helped a little bit in getting started. lmk if you need more help

Ok, I got the pic added. The only thing I cant figure out is how do I darken the pic of my dog? Also for banners, how do u guys make the shadow part? Thanks

if you want it darker maybe try adding a new layer on top with filling it in with black. set it to overlay maybe or lower the opacity. maybe it will be waht you are looking for.

you mean that little shadow next to it or a full size shadow of the pic?

show me what you have so far

Here, now I changed some things on it. I started a new one and put the pic of my dog on first then the next layer as a screen.

You can see a whole dog ? I can see the head but im sure that you would want to do it better . Practice makes perfect .

To make a section of it darker, use the "Burn" tool on the toolbar on the left. You can choose a brush shape to use also. hope that helps.
