Not sure how many here are Detroit Redwings fans (I sure am.... )

Tonight Steve Yzerman's Jersey # is being retired. The game/ceremony is on FSN Detroit (Fox Sports Net). It may be on a few Canadian Channels also.

If you get a chance you should check it out. Konstantinov walked!!!

I watched it. It was a great Ceremony, and he was a great player.

Did you notice how the only thing he wanted to talk about was everyone else??

At one point I almost thought he was going to say "lets wrap this up and play hockey" LOL.

He surely is a class act.

I was really shocked to see Vlady walking... !! Very happy to see that..

GO WINGS!!!

Thanks
Mike

Yeah they are off to a good start this season, but they also just lost Pronger and JS Giguere is injured.

I try not to get too excited about stuff during the regular season. The Redwings have had the best regular season record a couple times within the past 10 years and then they lose in the first round of the Playoffs.

Datsyuk is injured right now also, so hopefully the Redwings can keep winning. I think they are currently on a 12 game winning streak.

GO WINGS!!!

Thanks
Mike

Yeh lots injured on both sides.Pronger is a key player on the ducks but then datsyuk is amazing and is one of the best snipers in the nhl.His moves are sick.ever seen that shootout goal on turco before its unelieveable. As for the wings very disapointing last year got out first round of play offs last year to the oilers if I were you I would'nt get my hopes up either with shanny gone as well.

I am not worried about Shanny being gone. Good ridance actually....

The only thing he brought was toughness, there are other players on the Wings now who can pick up the goals he had (Cleary and Samuelsson are doing pretty good).

The thing with Detroit, the goalies will have to remain healthy. If Hasek gets injured then Detroit will have to play stellar Defense to have any shot at going far into the Playoffs.

Trust me, Detroit will be just fine (as long as they stay kinda healthy, they can't afford any serious injuries).

I do think that Detroit does need to make some move before the Trade Deadline, they either need another big scorer or someone to add some toughness. Losing McCarty really hurt, only because he was the main muscle in D-Town. Fischer was pretty physical but due to his health he can no longer play..

Who do you think will win from the West if it isn't Detroit?? San Jose and Anaheim are both good but the Playoffs are a totally different season than the regular season. (look at Ottawa the past couple years. Great regular season and crappy playoffs).

The Eastern Conference, New York is pretty good. Shanahan is a good player but he is only as good as those around him. Being paired with Jagr is great for him also, but really Shanny isn't as great as some people might think. Trust me, I cheered for him every game he played for Detroit.

Thanks
Mike

I agree 100% with you! This guy is what the young guys today should use as a role model. Classy is his middle name, and he never ever took a night off. Seen him play on one leg for soooo long!

Yeah, he sure was using only one leg for a long time.

I remember watching him in the 02 Playoffs when his knee was really bad and he had to actually use his stick like a crutch to get up when he fell down..

Gretzky was interviewed (probably taped) but he said one of his memories of Steve Yzerman was his pain level....right before the Canada Gold Medal game, Gretzky asked the trainer how bad it was (his knee)....the trainer says "If this were game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals and I was his trainer I would NOT clear him to player. (But hey, it was the Canadian Gold Medal game so he let him play LOL).

I was watching the game when the puck hit the goal post and hit him right in the eye. That was a very scary moment.

He has had some bad injuries early in his career also (didn't he break his neck?? I remember him having screws in his head with one of those metal things on his head/neck).

It just shows what a class act he is, here it was his night and all he wanted to do was praise everyone else.

Everything he said was "Us" "We" "Together". No "I". (Except when he said "I didn't do anything special" LOL).

He surely will be missed in Hockeytown!!

Oh yeah, the Wings won last night!!

Thanks
Mike

Awesome stuff lastnight and brought back quite a few good memories. Especially seeing Probert and Kocur back.

it watched it last night and it was awsome. They kept giving him all the credit for the success and he kept giving it right back to them. He was a 1 of a kind hockey player.
